February 20th 2024 Touchpoint Session – ONLINE
‘Exploring Vulnerability and Resilience in Frontline Practice’
We invite you to join us on-line on 20th February 2024 from 11am-1pm for a two-hour reflective practice session via Zoom.
Hosted Jim Sheehan, director of SHEP, this latest “Touchpoint” will be facilitated by Dr Aisling McMahon, clinical psychologist, integrative psychotherapist and clinical supervisor, who will guide attendees through the theme of “Exploring Vulnerability and Resilience in Frontline Practice”.
Jim said: “We rarely talk about humility in professional practice yet there is a sense of humble service in frontline practice for so many. But working from a place of humility in our service to others – and managing the expectation that we should have innate resilience – doesn’t mean that we can’t or shouldn’t also challenge systems, especially power systems, and advocate for important, much-needed change. At the very least, it is important to make time and space to reflect on what those words means to us in our daily work.”
Those who attended our annual conference in 2021 will remember Dr McMahon’s thought-provoking presentation.
Dr McMahon is an Assistant Professor in Psychotherapy in the School of Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health at DCU and Chair of the Professional Diploma in Clinical Supervision. She has worked in various settings over the past 30 years, including the Irish prison service, community-based and inpatient adult psychiatric services, a community care HSE service for children and adolescents, and private practice. Having engaged in sessional teaching through most of her career, she took up a full-time academic post in DCU in 2015, which has facilitated development of her specialist teaching and research interests in clinical supervision and practitioner development.
She has a particular interest in developing and supporting practitioner capability.
